The house was bounded off and reached from the West by a path, footbridge and ford, the banks of the boundary can be seen in the woodland today.A further path from the East lead up towards Wellbank. The redirection of the stream allowed for it (along with streams from Butterstile and Hilton Lane) to also supply the pond in Drinkwater Park, which had been dammed and in turn may have supplied the Tudor water mill, believed to be located along the banks of the Irwell at Drinkwater.
